Should Moroi students be taught offensive magic as well as defensive magic or should they learn offensive magic on their own?

They should be taught it with instructors on hand. Even though Christian technically learned it on his own, he still had Tasha to help with his control. Plus, magic can be exhausting. It should be taught in a controlled environment with adults on hand to help the student...just my opinion. Of course they should still learn defensive magic...they just need to tack on offensive magic as well!

I totally agree with you Dee.
I just want to add that I feel that the Moroi students don't have to learn offensive magic if they don't want to. For example, if their parent doesn't agree with the new customs, the student doesn't have to learn the magic. However, this gives a good opportunity for students who want to learn offensive magic.

Well, of course the offensive magic courses should be optional! But perhaps they should have an elementary course about control or something. What happens when the student wants to learn offensive magic but is restricted by the parents? Well, they rebel. So as long as they have the basics, it should be okay. At least that much should be mandatory. Further progression should be optional.

I agree. That makes perfect sense.
Now, the big question is whether the Royal Court or the Academy will allow for this sort of thing to happen. It's been drilled into their heads that offensive magic is bad. What will happen now that there's a chance things might change?

Well, this fight with the Strigoi will change everything. Already the guardians are accepting Moroi fighting alongside them. And if Lissa can remain on good terms with the Queen, I do believe some change will happen. It'll take a while but already change is happening.

I see, but what if the Queen doesn't agree with Lissa, even if Lissa gets in good with her? Or what if another royal disagrees and gets enough to people to create a rebellion. This offensive magic deal could get really messy. Plus, it'll give the Strigoi a better chance to attack the Moroi and dhampirs.
